Solar ATAP | ATAP Official Programme
Solar ATAP is Malaysia’s rooftop solar programme introduced from 1 January 2026, following the end of the previous Net Energy Metering (NEM) programme on 30 June 2025. The programme allows users to install rooftop solar PV systems for their own consumption first, while excess energy may be supplied to the TNB grid and credited under the ATAP mechanism.
For non-domestic users, official guidance states that installation capacity can go up to 100% of Maximum Demand, subject to technical assessment, with a maximum limit of 1,000 kW / 1 MW.
Applications are handled through a Registered Photovoltaic Service Provider (RPVSP), who supports the end-to-end application process.

Got Questions? We've Got You Covered!
What is Solar ATAP and how does it work?
Solar ATAP is Malaysia’s rooftop solar programme. It allows you to install a solar PV system to generate electricity for your own use first, helping reduce the amount of electricity you draw from TNB during the day. If your system produces more than you use, the excess energy may be exported to the grid under the programme mechanism.
How much can I save on my TNB bill with solar?
Your savings depend mainly on how much electricity you use during the day, your roof size, and the system capacity installed. In general, the more daytime usage you can offset with solar, the more meaningful your savings can be. At Sifu Solar, we look at your actual usage before recommending a system.
Is my roof suitable for solar panels?
Most residential and commercial roofs can be suitable for solar, provided there is enough usable space, limited shading, and the roof is in good condition. Factors such as roof direction, roof type, and daily sun exposure all play a role. We assess these before advising whether solar is a good fit for your property.
Do I need a hybrid system or a battery?
Not always. For many homes and businesses, a standard grid-connected solar system is enough to reduce daytime electricity costs. A hybrid-ready system may be more suitable if you want future battery upgrade options, backup power planning, or more flexibility over how your energy is used.
Is solar suitable for shoplots and businesses?
Yes. Solar can be especially effective for shoplots, offices, cafés, and commercial properties that use more electricity during the day. If your business runs air conditioning, lighting, refrigeration, or equipment during working hours, solar is often worth exploring.
